The old tree on the Vollander is a
special solitary specimen of populus ‘Marilandica’, a female hybrid of the Canadian poplar and the black poplar. The tree is about 150 years old, 35 metres high, has a trunk circumference of 5.13 metres and a crown diameter of 30 metres. A 50-metre-high media wall (press wall, sponsor wall) will be erected to enhance the presence of the tree in the landscape. International, national, and local sponsors will be attracted to have their logos printed on the fabric wall. Contracts are renewed every two years. During a biennial festival, the used fabric wil be distributed among the local population.
estimated cost: €500.000 (to be paid by the sponsors)
